Iced Hibiscus Lemon Tea


What is Hibiscus? That is a question that at one point in my life I asked and I want to share with you info regarding this wonderful tea.

“Hibiscus, also known as rose mallow, is a plant that belongs to the mallow family. There are over 200 species of hibiscus that can be found in the warm and tropical regions all over the world. Hibiscus grows on well-drained soils in the sunny areas. This plant is best known by its beautiful flowers.”

I love to make a half-gallon glass jar of this, store it in my fridge and enjoy first thing in the morning to get my digestion going. This lemonade is spicy, sweet and refreshing. It is is one of my favorite beverages.

Prep time: 15 minutes

Makes 10 cups

 

Ingredients

  • 10 cups water

  • 1 cup dried hibiscus

  • 3 tablespoons lemon juice

  • 2 tablespoons grated ginger

  • ⅓ cup raw honey (or agave)

 

Method

 

1. In a large pot, boil 10 cups of water. When water comes to a boil, turn off heat.

 

2. Add hibiscus, lemon juice, and ginger. Steep for 15 minutes before straining.

 

3. Strain out ginger and hibiscus. Add 1/3-cup raw honey and mix.

 

4. Let tea cool at room temperature before serving over ice.
